Written and Narrated by Hundreds
or maybe thousands...

A growing media & social phenomenon that becomes as real as we make it to be!

We invited all who could to write their personal narrative during events that took place in the mountains of Appalacia. We invited each individual to write directly on the portraits themselves. We valued hand- writing because it authenticates a person's voice and legacy. However, in cases where indiviudals had strong narratives and yet were unable to write, we accepted entries written by a blood or marital relative. The broad subject matter that folks have felt necessary to write about included:

*multi-generational heritage

*perceived changes in the land over the course of their decades

*everyday life, its rewards and survival challenges

*involvement in the current explicit movement to defend ecosystems and create local and fair sustainable economies

*childhood memories

*little tales of hiking and climbing adventures and so on.

We went to a variety of places in this bioregion for a fair number of folks to record their 'on-the-ground' intimate perspectives and vivid descriptive stories in their own handwriting on a portrait drawing of themselves. These portraits are ready to be consolidated and made publically accessible under this unique aesthetic theme. We are vagabond volunteers living on the road, working for bed and board and filtered non-hydrogenated waste vegetable oil (our rig runs on fried grease).
